I want to be the best. I want to be known. I want to be famous. I want to be rich. I want to be healthy and fit. I want to be good-looking. I want to be calm and peaceful. I want to be someone with a lot of friends and no enemies.
I want to be someone who is loved by everyone. I want to be with the love of my life. I want to be the owner of a beautiful house and the father of beautiful children. I want to be the creator of a beautiful life for my family. I want to be the supporter, the guardian, the protector, and the provider of my family.
We say these lines daily to ourselves, don’t we? And I think we always act on these words. I think this is where we make mistakes. The mistake being the fact that we could say it a bit differently. We could think about it a bit differently.
You see, every person on the planet wants all those things. Every person wants a good car, a good life, a good house, a good wife, a good family. Everyone wants that. But no one wants the troubles that come with that.
They don’t want the sacrifices. They don’t want the difficulties. They don’t want the compromises. They don’t want sleepless nights.
They don’t want the difficult decisions to be made. They don’t want any of those things that you need to do in order to have those things.
I mean, sure, some people are handed over these things. They are born with a silver spoon in their mouth.
But then again, if you are not that person, if you are someone who needs to build everything from scratch, I need you to understand that there are going to be times when you will think that you are nothing, and you would need to change that.
I think you should start with this — change a single word in your life, in your words, in your emotions, in your mind. Because your words matter a lot.
The most important thing for your mind is the words that you make it hear right now. Your words have a greater effect on your mind than anyone else’s, because you are with yourself all the time. No one else is as near to you as you yourself are.
So why not start with a small change of words? Remove the word “want” and change it to “willing.” So this is how it’s going to sound like now:
I am willing to be the best.
I am willing to be known.
I am willing to be famous.
I am willing to be rich.
I am willing to be healthy and fit.
I am willing to be good-looking.
I am willing to be calm and peaceful.
I am willing to have a lot of friends and no enemies.
I am willing to be someone who is loved by everyone.
I am willing to be with the love of my life.
I am willing to be the owner of a beautiful house, the father of beautiful children, and the creator of a beautiful life for my family.
I am willing to be the supporter, the guardian, the protector, and the provider of my family.
And I am willing to sacrifice in order to get what I want.
I am willing to make those difficult decisions.
I am willing to suffer through those sleepless nights.
I am willing to be alone during my journey.
I am willing to make changes in my life that I know will be needed in order to succeed.
I am willing to be better with every passing day.
I am willing to compromise my pleasure and comfort for a beautiful tomorrow.
I am ready to make the changes required in myself and in my life, because I am willing to be someone different from what I am today.
This is all the difference we need.
You see how the mindset shifts from desire to actual commitment? I mean, that is what we need to do in our day-to-day life in order to actually improve. Because the first improvement is going to begin with a small change in your mindset.
Once you are able to shift your mind from desire to commitment, from wishes to discipline, I think that is the greatest win. That is when you actually start winning. From that point onwards, you are not the old you anymore — you are someone totally different, who is making sure that he does succeed in his life.
So this is the difference between wanting and being willing. Both seem so alike, yet they are so different. Just keep this in mind:
the best view comes after the hardest climb — and people are not ready for that.
Mark Manson says this in his book as well: people want the beautiful stage, the pleasure, the rewards, the trophies — they want all the good things, but not the bad side of it that comes with it.
My father says every picture has two sides. When you buy a picture, if you keep this in mind — that it has two sides: one, the beautiful one that you display, that you show; but there’s a second one that’s on its back, which is barely anything — but that is how it gets its support on the wall. The things on the back are actually helping it sustain and be able to show its glorified beauty.
And I think that actually does make sense. I mean, life does not come easy. You’ll have to make difficult decisions. You’ll have to let go of your pleasures for today if you want to be something important and successful tomorrow.
And I’m not saying just trade off your life today for tomorrow. I mean, there’s a difference between leaving your comfort and leaving your peace. Never compromise your peace — not today, not tomorrow.
But the comfort zone is something you need to leave as soon as possible, because those wants will remain wants if you just keep on staying in the comfort zone. But if you’re willing to leave your comfort zone, you’re willing to make the changes in your life that you actually need to, then you’re actually paving a pathway to reach where you truly want to be in your life.
That’s the greatest difference between a winner and a loser. They say a winner is a loser who tried one more time. That is so true.
Think about it.
